1. Introduction
Banan Shuddhi (বানান শুদ্ধি) means "correctness of spelling." In every Bangladeshi
competitive exam — BCS, Bank, Primary/NTRCA, and IT-officer written tests — you will meet
a cluster of questions of the form: "Which of the following spellings is correct?" or
"Which word is spelled wrongly?" These are pure-memory + pure-rule questions: there is
no reasoning shortcut, but there IS a small set of high-yield rules that generate most of
the words examiners test. Master those rules and the standard error-list, and you convert
an unpredictable "vocabulary" topic into 3–5 nearly-guaranteed marks per exam.
Bangla spelling was standardized by the Bangla Academy Adarsha Banan Bidhi (বাংলা
একাডেমি প্রমিত বাংলা বানানের নিয়ম), first issued in 1992 and revised several times (latest
consolidated editions in the 2010s–2020s). Modern exams follow this standard, so when two
"traditional" spellings compete, the Academy-preferred form is the exam answer.
2. Learning Objectives
