BPSC Assistant Programmer: how to prepareবিপিএসসি সহকারী প্রোগ্রামার: প্রস্তুতির উপায়

The BPSC non-cadre exam pattern for Assistant Programmer and Assistant Maintenance Engineer, why Bangla, English and general knowledge matter so much, and how to split your time.

The pattern

Assistant Programmer is a 9th-grade non-cadre post, and every BPSC non-cadre exam follows the Non-Cadre Exam Policy 2023:

Stage Marks
MCQ screening, 1 hour (held when 1,001 or more apply) Bangla 20, English 20, General knowledge 20, Technical 40
Written, 4 hours Bangla 40, English 40, General knowledge 40, Technical 80 (theory 30, application 50)
Viva 100

A wrong MCQ answer costs 0.50 marks, double the bank exams' penalty. The Assistant Programmer and Assistant Maintenance Engineer posts of the 2025 circulars sit one common MCQ paper on 29 October 2026.

The part most technical candidates underestimate

Only 40 of the 100 MCQ marks and 80 of the 200 written marks are technical. The other 60% is Bangla, English and general knowledge. A strong programmer who neglects them will not get past the screening test. In the 10 BPSC Assistant Programmer papers in our bank, Bangla (21 questions), English (20) and general knowledge (19) appear almost as often as networking (31) and programming (34).

The technical part

There is no official topic list for the technical paper, so the past papers are the guide. In ours, the most asked technical subjects are programming, networking, database and computer architecture. The written technical paper gives 50 of its 80 marks to application, so expect to write short programs, trace code, design a small database or solve a networking problem, not only define terms.

How to split a study day

  • 2 hours of technical work: one subject at a time, MCQs first, then one written problem.
  • 30 minutes each of Bangla grammar and English grammar.
  • 30 minutes of general knowledge: Bangladesh, international affairs, and science and technology.

In the exam

  • With 0.50 marks lost per wrong answer, leave questions you cannot narrow down.
  • In the written paper, answer the application questions first: they carry the most marks.
  • Keep Bangla and English answers neat and complete; they are marked out of 40 each.
