Petrobangla and BPDB Assistant Manager / Engineer (IT): how to prepareপেট্রোবাংলা ও বিপিডিবি সহকারী ব্যবস্থাপক / প্রকৌশলী (আইটি): প্রস্তুতির উপায়

Energy and power companies hire IT officers through their own written exams without a published syllabus. What their past papers show, and how to prepare for an exam without a topic list.

No syllabus, so read the papers

Petrobangla's combined 2026 circular for Assistant Manager (CSE/IT) lists a written exam followed by a viva, and the Bangladesh Power Development Board recruits Assistant Engineers (CSE) through its own written exams. We found no published topic list for either, and several of their past papers were set by BUET for the employer. That makes the past papers the best guide.

We hold only a few papers for these two employers (3 for Petrobangla and 4 for BPDB), so treat the figures below as a direction, not a rule:

  • Petrobangla: a mix of technical subjects (digital logic, algorithms, software engineering, programming, cloud) with Bangla, English and mathematics.
  • BPDB: a large general knowledge share, plus English, operating systems, security, networking, digital logic and database.

Across all government company IT papers in our bank (166 papers), networking, programming and database are the most asked technical subjects, and general knowledge and English together make up a large share.

How to prepare without a topic list

  1. Cover the core well. Networking, programming, database, operating systems, digital logic and computer architecture appear in almost every paper of this kind.
  2. Practise written answers. These exams lean on written questions: in our papers for this group there are more written questions than MCQs.
  3. Keep general knowledge and English warm. Ten to fifteen minutes a day is enough to stay ready.
  4. Solve the employer's own papers last, under time, to get used to its level and style.
