A routing protocol is one that routers use to exchange reachability information and build their routing tables automatically. Both protocols in option (c) do exactly that:
- RIP (Routing Information Protocol): a distance-vector protocol using the Bellman-Ford algorithm, with hop count as its metric (16 = unreachable).
- OSPF (Open Shortest Path First): a link-state protocol in which each router builds a map of the network and runs Dijkstra's SPF algorithm, using cost as its metric.
Why the other options are wrong
- (a) TCP and IP: TCP is a transport-layer protocol and IP is the routed (network-layer) protocol that carries data; neither exchanges routing information. IP is the packet that gets routed, not a routing protocol.
